Wright and Donohue Named MAAC Rookie’s of the Week For Third Time


Siena freshmen Marquis Wright and Meghan Donohue were each named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday for their performances this past week. It was the third time that each of them has won the award so far in their standout seasons.

Wright averaged 15 points, 7 assists and 3.5 rebounds over the Saints’ games against Niagara and Quinnipiac.

On Saturday, the freshman point guard tallied his first career double-double scoring 18 points with 10 assists in an overtime loss to Quinnipiac. He had just one turnover. On Thursday, Wright was solid as he has been all season long, scoring 12 points with 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. For the two games combined, he had just 3 turnovers and shot 56% from the field and 86% from the foul line.

Wright leads the MAAC in assists (5.6) and steals (1.9).

Donohue continues to be a force inside for the Saints. She averaged 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against Iona and Manhattan.

In winning the award for the third time, has tallied the most MAAC Rookie of the Week awards by a Siena freshman since Laura Menty earned the honor six times during the 2004-2005 season before being named the MAAC Rookie of the Year. Menty scored 391 points during that season and Donohue’s 188 points scored are the most in a season by a Siena freshman since.

Donohue leads all MAAC freshmen in scoring (9.0), rebounding (5.7) and field goal percentage (53.2%).

On Saturday, Donohue scored a career-high 16 points, shooting 6-10 from the field along with 9 rebounds against first place Iona. On Thursday against Manhattan, she scored 9 points and added 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
