Ubiles Dealt to Springfield

The Springfield Armor announced today the acquisition of former Siena standout Edwin Ubiles. In the deal the Armor send the Santa Cruz Warriors their 2nd round selection in the 2013 NBA D-League Draft and a 5th round pick in 2013 the Armor had previous acquired from Santa Cruz.

This is the second time Ubiles has been traded in the his D-League career, the first being a draft day trade in 2011 to the Dakota Wizards following his selection with the 6th overall pick by the Bakersfield Jam.

Ubiles, the reigning D-Leauge Rookie of the Year, has appeared in 14 games this season for Santa Cruz, all off the bench, and is averaging 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Last season, during his dominant D-League rookie campaign, he averaged 19.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game and earned a call-up to the Washington Wizards, becoming the first Siena Saint to appear in a regular season NBA game.

Ubiles began this season in France with Cholet Basket of the French Pro A League. He appeared in only one game before leaving the team to return to the States to rehab an injured foot.

Springfield is presently 14-23, in last place in the East Division. The team sits six games behind Maine for the final playoff spot.

Ubiles is expected to make his Armor debut Friday, March 8, when the team travels to Erie to take on the Bayhawks. Siena fans looking to see Ubiles in action in nearby Springfield will have their first chance on March 14 at 7pm when the Armor play Texas.
