U Albany Retains The Albany Cup

Despite another solid game by senior Lily Grenci, the U Albany women defeated Siena 72-48 to retain the Albany Cup at the Times Union Center. The Danes pressure defense and athleticism proved to be too much for the Saints on this night resulting in a sub par game shooting wise combined with too many turnovers. Siena committed 19 turnovers for the game leading to  23 points for U Albany.

Even though Siena shot  just 25% in the first half, the Saints hung in and went in to the half down just eight points, 28-20. But with a tough 20-6 Albany run and guard Cassandra Callaway scoring all 24 of her points in the second half, the Saints were unable to recover.

Grenci finished the game with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Christina Centeno added 16 points and 5 rebounds for Siena. For Albany, Callaway led with 24 points. They also received double double performances from Julie Forster, 14 points and 10 rebounds and Ebone Henry 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Siena goes on the road for their next game to face Navy on Wednesday night.
