Siena fans will get their first chance to see their 2012-13 Siena Saints men’s and women’s basketball teams September 11, at the Times Union Center. Siena recently announced the date of the annual event, and this year fans have alot to get familiar or reacquainted with. Siena’s mens team returns only four players from last years depleted squad.

Star center, and potential MAAC preseason player of the year, O.D. Anosike returns for his senior season as the unquestioned leader of this year’s team. O.D. is coming off a dominant season in which he led the nation in rebounding (12.52 rpg), averaged 15 points a game, and was second in the nation in double doubles with 23, including a streak of 17 consecutive.

Freshman sensation Evan Hymes and fan favorite Rob Poole are the other two key returning players. Hymes dazzled fans with his blazing speed and scoring outbursts, including 30 vs Mount St Mary’s. Poole earned the fans adoration through a hard nosed style of play that was out-shined only by graduating Senior Kyle Downey.

In addition to the new faces, three Saints who missed all of last season with injury are healthy and returning for action this season. Rakeem Brookins, who dazzled fans with his play as a freshman two seasons ago, returns to form a backcourt with Evan Hymes that is sure to push the tempo against any opponent this season. Also returning are Davis Martens and Trenity Burdine who will both be looked to for contributions, likely off the bench.

The event will run from 5:30-7:30. Fans will enjoy a complimentary reception including food and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The night will feature introductions of both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, an address from Head Coaches Mitch Buonaguro and Ali Jaques, and opportunities for fans to meet and mingle with the team.
