Siena’s Offense Fuels Win Over Marist

With a monster game from OD Anosike and five players scoring in double figures Siena relied on offensive supremacy and pulled out a 79-75 road win over Marist.

The Saints appeared a bit lethargic in the early going and Marist took advantage opening up a 13 point lead, 23-10 at the 11:40 mark. But, a 21-7 run by the Saints capped off by a Rob Poole 3-pointer on an assist by Anosike gave Siena the lead with just under five to go in the half. They would widen the lead to 8 by the break 41-33.

OD appeared to be a man amongst boys particularly in the first half in which he had already reached a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Although the Red Foxes adjusted with double and triple teams he still managed to continue his dominance down low while effectively kicking it out for a career high 5 assists.

In the absence of Imoh Silas (ankle) Siena Coach Mitch Buonaguro opted to go with a smaller line up for much of the game. This resulted in a more active and mobile offense with solid ball movement. Trenity Burdine in his second game back since returning from an academic issue appeared to be the difference as he came off the bench to score 13 points on 6-9 shooting to go along with 4 rebounds in 30 minutes of play.

Although things tightened down the stretch as a rush by Marist pulled them within 3 in the final minute, the Saints never trailed in the second half and hung on for their third MAAC win.
