Siena’s Hetzke Named MAAC Rookie of the Week For 9th Time

Siena’s Margot Hetzke continued her impressive freshman season this past week and as a result, for the 9th time, she was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week. She averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in helping the Saints to two big wins over Manhattan and Fairfield.

Hetzke has firmly established herself as the favorite for MAAC Rookie of the Year. With just one more week to go, Hetzke’s 9 ROW’s surpass Fairfield’s Casey Smith (5 times ) and Marist’s Payton Birchmeier (1 time) who are the only others to be named Rookie of the Week this season.

On the season, Hetzke is averaging 14.0 points (5th in MAAC) and 7.4 rebounds (4th in MAAC). She is the only freshman in the top 12 in scoring. Her 9 ROW’s rank 3rd in the history of the conference. She ranks 10th in the MAAC in field goal percentage (.461) on the season and shot 56.5% in the two wins this past week, helping to secure the program’s first winning season in 11 years. Her 377 points scored currently rank as the fifth most by a Siena freshman in program history.

Hetzke scored a game-high 20 points in the Saints’ 66-51 win at Manhattan on Thursday. She shot 8-11 from the field and grabbed 7 rebounds in her third 20+ point game of the season.

On Saturday, Hetzke scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in helping the Saints to a 54-47 win over Fairfield, one of the top teams (3rd place) in the MAAC. It was her fifth double-double of her young career.
