Siena Women’s Basketball assistant coach Stephanie McCormick has been named the new head coach at Western Carolina. Serving as the lead assistant under Siena head coach Ali Jaques for the last two seasons, McCormick was instrumental in helping to turn around the Saints’ program with a 22-13 overall record this season, advancing to the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) championship game. The team’s 22 wins this season were a 13-win improvement from last year, which was tied for the second-best turnaround in all of Division I women’s basketball.
“Stephanie McCormick will do a tremendous job leading and reviving the Western Carolina women’s basketball program,” said Jaques. ”Our program will certainly miss her consistency, professionalism, mentorship and kind nature. The players at Western Carolina will realize quickly how much Coach Mac loves basketball and cares about people. All of her hard work as an assistant over the years has paid off and I for one will be cheering for her and her program’s future success!”
Western Carolina is a familiar place to McCormick as she has twice served as assistant at the Southern Conference school.
