After falling behind by 15 points in the second half, the Saints came marching back and extended the game to overtime where they beat Loyola, 90-82 at the Times Union Center on Saturday. It was Siena’s fourth straight win and an exciting one for their home opener in front of a crowd of 5,681.

The Saints started off just fine building an 11-4 lead with 15:40 to go in the first half. Things fell flat from there as Loyola hit 6 first half three-pointers, 4 by Tyler Hubbard to help take a 40-32 lead into the break.

The Greyhounds grew the lead to 49-34 with 17:13 to go as the Saints struggled to find any flow offensively. But things changed quickly as Marquis Wright and Nico Clareth got hot from three-point range hitting 4 and 2 treys respectively to launch a 24-13 run over a seven minute span to pull within 62-58 with just under ten and half minutes remaining.

The Saints kept pushing and built a four point lead with three minutes left but Loyola scored 6 straight points to regain the lead 76-74 with :40 left in regulation. With time running down, Lavon Long maneuvered through the lane and found Clareth who knocked down a short one-handed jumper to tie the game with 13 seconds left.

Loyola would have one last chance for the win in regulation but Wright who was isolated on Andrew Walker, rejected the final attempt to send the game into overtime.

On the Saints first possession in the extra session, which lasted nearly a minute and a half,, they missed three straight shots but got the offensive rebound each time before Wright was fouled and made one of two free throws. After Loyola scored on their next possession, Brett Bisping nailed a three-pointer from the corner on an assist from Javion Ogunyemi sparking a 9-0 run that included a Clareth breakaway dunk to seal the victory.

Five players finished in double figures for Siena led by Wright who scored 21 points, 17 in the second half,  along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Javion Ogunyemi had 15 points and 9 rebounds and 3 blocks while Brett Bisping also had 15 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

The freshman Clareth was a spark off the bench on both ends of the floor finishing with 14 points and classmate Kenny Wormley had 11 points in his best performance so far. Long added 9 points, 4 boards and 2 assists.

Jarred Jones led the Greyhounds with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

The Saints will look to extend their winning streak to five on Tuesday as they head to  Cornell.
