Following one of the best turnarounds in all of Division I, Siena has rewarded Head Coach Jimmy Patsos with a contract extension through the 2018-19 season. In just one season, Patsos returned the Saints to their winning ways finishing with a record of 20-18 after three consecutive losing seasons. The extension adds one additional year to his original contract.

“I’m grateful to be here, I love this place,” Patsos said. “This week we had our golf outing and a lunch with the `old-timers’, and it shows the generations of people impacted by the Siena program. I’m just a passenger, along for the ride, and I’m lucky to be a part of it.”

Adding 12 victories to the previous season’s total, Patsos reenergized the program and its fan base with a team that had been picked to finish 10th in the MAAC Coaches’ Preseason Poll. Patsos promised to make Siena Basketball fun again and did just that with an entertaining brand of basketball that culminated in a postseason CBI Championship.

“The turnaround of our team both in terms of on-court success and talent level happened much more quickly than we thought it would,” vice president and director of athletics John D’Argenio said. “That is a testament to coach Patsos’ ability to recruit quality student athletes and teach and motivate young men to realize their potential.  We decided at the end of the season to add one more year to Jimmy’s current contract.”

The Saints will look to build on the success of last season, returning all key players while adding a talented freshman class of Willem Brandwijk, Jimmy Paige and Cam Gottfried. Transfer Pat Cole also becomes eligible this season and is certain to have a major impact as well.
