Siena Men To Play Vs. Marist In Opening Round 8/9 Game

With Saint Peter’s losing to Niagara in their final regular season game, the seeding possibilities have been narrowed and Siena is certain to face Marist in the 1st round of the MAAC Tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the 8/9 game in Springfield.

The Saints split the regular season series with Marist winning on the road in the first game 79-75. In the second game on Friday night, Marist pulled out another close game at the TUC winning 76-74.

Siena Head Coach Mitch Buonaguro spoke of the impending meeting between the two teams for the third time this season.

“We are really even.” said Buonaguro. “It’s two even teams. The two games have been decided by six points. It shapes up to be a really good game, a neutral court game. We’ve gotta shore up our defense a little bit.”

By virtue of the tie breaking criteria, Siena is almost certain to be the 9th seed no matter what the outcome is of their regular season finale with Iona on Sunday. The only scenario which gives Siena the 8th seed would be if Siena, Fairfield, Manhattan all win their last game, and Siena wins a deciding coin flip.

With a win over Marist the Saints would face #1 seed Niagara in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
