Siena Loses A Remarkable Friend

Siena lost a dear and dedicated friend on Friday morning as Courtney Erickson passed away from a difficult yet courageous battle with cancer. Both his strength and display of hope in the face of adversity were remarkable. He remained positive and focused on the future with great optimism even in his most difficult days.

Erickson who previously worked in Siena’s sports information office and more recently as instant replay coordinator at men’s and women’s basketball games had a tremendous impact on those who were fortunate enough to have come in contact with him. In April he was honored with the Howard T. Tucker award for his contributions to Siena Basketball.

As this past season wound down, we spoke about his battle with cancer and that he was hopeful he would be well enough to attend the MAAC Tournament. Sure enough, there he was in Springfield with a warm greeting and upbeat outlook. He continued to live life like most never will as long as his body would let him.

The outpouring of love for Courtney by so many over the final days have been an amazing tribute to the manner in which he touched the lives of those around him. May he rest in peace.
