She Said Yes: Siena Alum Receives Proposal After Sinking Half Court Shot

Siena alum Erin Tobin (’08) sank a half court shot during a first-half time out in the Siena vs. Manhattan game at the Times Union Center Thursday night. Little did she know, the “contest” announced as an opportunity to win a $500.oo Dunkin Donuts gift card, was actually a set up for what would be a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Steve Duckett who was dressed up as “Cuppie” the Dunkin Donuts mascot.

In the postgame press conference, Siena coach Jimmy Patsos explained that he missed the event since he was in a discussion with a referee at the time.

“I saw this eruption of people,” said Patsos. “I thought maybe the President of Governor Cuomo walked in or something.”

When the sequence of events surrounding the proposal was explained, he turned to Brett Bisping who recently got engaged and said, “See Brett, you could have done that. That was impressive.”

“That was the loudest cheer I’ve ever heard here except when (Siena) was down 17 when I was at Loyola and Siena came all the way back and beat us in the MAAC semis. That was a pretty loud cheer too.”

When asked if he had any advice for the newly engaged couple Patsos said, “Two bedrooms, two baths. You’ll stay together forever.”

Here is the video of the special moment:

The event caught national attention and even earned the #1 spot on ESPN’s Sportcenter Top 10.
