For weeks Saints head coach Jimmy Patsos has preached to his team the need to play a full 40 minutes, he finally received the effort he had been seeking in a 73-71 win over Bucknell.

Siena entered the game on a four game losing streak looking to stop the bleeding before reentering conference play later this week. Depleted by injuries, the Saints were limited to eight scholarship players and all contributed meaningful minutes.

The game was a seesaw affair through much of the first half before Bucknell went on a run and pushed out to a 10 point lead with 2:11 left to go, 38-28. The Saints answered back on the backs of Willem Brandwijk and Marquis Wright. Brandwijk hit a three off an assist from Wright. On the ensuing Bucknell possession the duo followed that up with a steal by Brandwijk and Wright lay up. Following another Bucknell turnover Wright drove the court and scored another quick layup to see Siena close out the half on a 7-0 run to cut the Bucknell lead down to 38-35.

The second half saw the two teams trade runs. Siena used a 9-0 run, capped by a Rob Poole three, to push out to a 55-54 lead with 9:53 left to play in the game. Siena pushed the lead to 61-54 before Bucknell used a 7-0 run of their own to tie the game with 4:16 left. The Saints continued to push and scored 10 of their final 12 points from the free throw line to hold on for a 73-71 win.

Marquis Wright led the team with a game high 24 points to go with 6 assists. He was joined in double figures by Rob Poole, 17, and Evan Hymes, 14.

Javion Ogunyemi put in a strong performance as he continues to improve the strength of his inside game. The sophomore big man secured 8 boards to go with 8 points.

The Saints shook off the shooting funk of their previous games as they broke out to shoot 55% from the field, including an 8-12 effort from Wright.

Other points of improvement. Siena outrebounded Bucknell 32-27 while committing only 13 fouls compared to 21 for the Bisons.

Siena (4-7, 1-1) returns to MAAC play this Friday when they will travel to Fairfield for a game that will be televised on SNY.
