Saints Look to Defend Albany Cup

The Saints will host the UAlbany in their annual showdown for the Albany Cup. The men’s game will tip following the women’s game, scheduled to tip at 5pm.

Last season the Saints found themselves in a 19 point first half hole before surging all the way back and securing a 64-60 victory. Evan Hymes had a tremendous game, hitting 5 three pointers and scoring 21. O.D. Anosike had a monster game and double-double, finishing with 21 points and 18 boards. Graduated Senior Brandon Walters also contributed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

This season Siena enters at 2-5, the inverse of Albany’s hot 5-2 start. Albany has gotten strong contribution this season from Jacob Iati. The Albany guard enters the game averaging 15 points per contest and shooting 47% from three. Mike Black has also excelled for the Danes, shooting 43% from three and is averaging 17.4 points per game. The Saints will need to contain the Danes on the outside and prevent them from finding their rhythm from beyond the three point line.

On the interior the Danes are led by Blake Metcalf. The 6’9″ center is averaging 5.3 points and 5.1 boards on the season. That rebounding average is tops for the Danes. Metcalf will certainly have his hands full in containing Anosike, and the Saints look to have a distinct advantage under the basket.

The Saints are 9-2 since resuming the rivalry in 2001. A win tomorrow would be great for uplifting the fanbase and most importantly, ending the Saints 3 game skid and reversing the season momentum.

As always, Let’s Go Saints!
