Saints End Regular Season With Loss

Siena ended their regular season the same way it started, with a loss. The Iona Gaels made easy work of the Saints this afternoon, handing the Saints their 23rd loss of the season with a 80-61 rout.

Davis Martens continued his late season surge picking up his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. Over the past three games Martens is averaging 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds a game.

With several NBA scouts on hand to watch Iona’s Momo Jones and Siena’s OD Anosike, Anosike put in a solid perform with 17 points and 8 rebounds.

Evan Hymes returned to the starting lineup for the first time in two games and struggled with from the field. Putting up more shots than any other Saint, Hymes was 3-12 from the floor for 10 points. Hymes also had 4 turnovers and 2 assists.

Barring an 11 game winning streak en route to the National Championship, the Saints will match a program worse 24 loses when the season concludes. That mark was set in the 2004-05 season when the Saints finished 6-24. The following year began the Fran McCaffrey era at Siena.

The Saints finished the regular season in 9th place in the 10 team MAAC. They will face Marist on Friday night at 7:30 pm to open up MAAC Tournament play. The Saints and Red Foxes split their two regular season meetings, each winning on the other’s home court.
