Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…. Kyle Downey throwing down a two handed jam!

Kyle Downey had a superb game. He shot 8-11 from the floor, including a dunk, to give him 17 points to go with his 6 rebounds and career high 9 assists, but it wasn’t enough. The Saints turned the ball over 21 times and fell to Hofstra 81-69 in their bracketbuster matchup.

The Saints couldn’t hold onto the rock to start the game, accumulating 9 turnovers before they scored a single point. Despite these troubles Siena was only down 8-0 as Hofstra was unable to fully capitalize on the mistakes. Heading into the locker room at the half the Saints were able to pull even at 37.

The game ping ponged back and forth throughout the second half in a game that saw the lead change six times. Ultimately it was Hofstra that had the final late push, scoring the game’s final 10 points, to seal the victory. Mike Moore led the way for the Pride, dropping 30 points on the Saints.

The Saints out shot, 58.5% to 45%, and out rebounded, 36-23, Hofstra, further highlighting the significance turnovers played in the outcome of this contest.

Evan Hymes had a rough afternoon, committing 8 of Siena’s 21 turnovers. He shot 2-9 from the field and finished with 6 points. Even on an off day he did manage to show a flash of the electric player he is, dishing off a behind the back pass to Rob Poole that resulted in an easy bucket.

OD Anosike had another solid performance, scoring a team high 22 points to go with his 12 rebounds to earn his nation leading 20th double-double of the season. Rob Poole also had a strong all around performance, scoring 10 points to go with 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

The loss drops Siena to 12-15, ensuring the Saints will wrap up the regular season with a losing record. Siena looks to get back on the winning track this Thursday when the real season resumes. Siena will square off at Marist as they look to keep a hold on their sixth place tie with Niagara and keep pressuring Rider for fifth.
