Ronald Moore comes up short

Ronald Moore’s first professional season came to an end today when his Nitra squad fell to Levice 70-58 in game 5 of the Slovakian ExtraLeague championship. The loss was a bitter disappointment to an otherwise brilliant season for Nitra and Moore.

Nitra earned the number 1 seed in the playoffs by going a commanding 26-10 in the regular season and won playoff series against Bystrica and Vahostav-Zilina, both in 5 games, in route to their championship matchup against Levice. Nitra jumped out to a quick 2 games to none lead in the best of 5 series but narrowly lost 96-94 in game 3 and fell again 85-77 in game 4 setting up their game 5 winner-take all matchup.

Levice dominated much of the finale. Nitra took a 16-15 lead at the nine minute mark but were unable to keep pace with Levice. For his part former Saint Ronald Moore contributed 11 pts, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists in the losing effort.

While this is surely not the end that Ronald worked towards this season he has plenty of reason to hold his head high. On the season Ronald led Nitra in points and assists with 16.9 ppg and 6.9 apg, he also contributed 5 rpg (stats courtesy of eurobasket.com). Ronald is sure to have more success as his professional career progresses and we would like to congratulate him on a successful rookie campaign.
