OD Anosike’s dominate season has drawn the attention of at least one pollster who will vote for one of the four major national player of the year awards: the Wooden, Naismith, AP, and Robertson. In a straw poll conducted by ESPN, 54 voters cast ballots consisting of their top three choices for player of the year. OD finished tied for tenth with 1 third place vote and was the only MAAC player to appear on the list, beating out Iona’s much talked about duo of Scott Machado and Mike Glover.
Anosike has had a season to remember for the Saints. He set a school record with 17 consecutive double-doubles, a mark that is the second longest in the nation in the past 15 years. He leads the nation in rebounding with 12.8 a game, and is averaging a healthy 14.8 points a game.
While it might only be one vote, its great to see OD begin entering the conversation as one of the best players in the nation, its certainly well deserved.
