Names Beginning to Emerge In Search For New Siena Coach

With nearly two weeks passed since the announcement of the firing of Siena Head Coach Mitch Buonaguro, the search for a replacement is well underway. As stated previously by Siena Director of Athletics John D’Argenio, there is no defined timetable for naming a replacement. It would seem likely however, that word should come down in the next couple of weeks.

Although no official word has come from Siena, a number of prospects and rumors surrounding them have arisen from various sources. With no certainty of the accuracy of the reports at this time a couple of interesting items came up this week.

Hoopdirt.com, a site run by actual college coaches with multiple sources within the business, reported today that at least three candidates are in the running. They name Loyola’s Jimmy Patsos, James Madsion’s Matt Brady, and Florida International’s Richard Pitino as the three leaders right now and say they are hearing two of the three have made visits to the Loudonville campus in the last few days.

*UPDATE 3/25: In comments to Mark Singelais of the Times Union, Father Mullen stated no candidates had yet to visit campus.*

Earlier this week Steve Amedio from Keepin’ Track of the MAAC reported that reliable sources confirmed that D’Argenio had conducted an off campus interview with Penn State assistant coach Keith Urgo.
