Kenny Strong Down The Stretch

With five games remaining Kenny Hasbrouck is finishing the season strong for his Meridiano Alicante team.  Despite missing some games during the season with a right elbow injury he has played very well in the ACB, the Spanish 1st Division.

We caught up with Kenny this week  to check on the progress of his team and his game. “We currently have 5 games left and we are basically fighting to stay in the ACB. Our record really doesn’t show how good we are as a complete team, we’ve had a lot of injury problems that crippled us in a big stretch of games”. They will be looking to improve on their 8-21 record on Sunday when they hit the road to take on Unicaja.

Although Kenny originally went to Alicante to play the point his team needed a strong shooting guard and has asked him to take on that role.  “It took awhile but I’m finally comfortable playing the shooting guard position here but I still do prefer to play point guard”. His comfort level is showing as he has scored 19 points in each of the last two games.  On the season his is second in scoring for the team averaging 11.7 points per game. He is also averaging 2 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals. “I am playing very well, scoring the ball, creating for my teammates and playing defense!”

After this season Kenny will be returning to the States and taking the opportunity to reunite with former Saints teammates and family while preparing to futher his career.After spending time with the Miami Heat, Kenny is working hard to earn another opportunity in the NBA. “I do plan to pursue the NBA still, it will be hard to get in for me this upcoming season because of the lockout”. In the mean time he plans to continue to work hard and capitalize on his experiences overseas. Although the next epsiode has not been written he is certain to continue his career as a professional.

Update: Alicante fell to Unicaja today 90-78. Kenny Hasbrouck and two others led Alicante with 15 points each. Kenny will be in action again as his team takes on GranCanaria next Sunday.

Update 5/1/11: Alicante defeated Grenada 71-57 on Saturday. Kenny Hasbrouck had 8 points and 5 rebounds in 28 minutes of action as coach  Txus Viddoretta used all players trying to preserve the starting five for the final stretch of games.

Update 5/5/11: Meridiano Alicante is assured of remaining in the ACB, Spanish first division for next season despite a loss to  Regal Barca 84-76 yesterday. Despite a difficult season with injuries to key players the organization is able to maintain it’s status as one of the elite teams due to a win by Mangressa.  Kenny Hasbrouck again put in a solid performance with 11 points and 3 assists for his team against the number one team in the league. Kenny and team Alicante will conclude the season on Sunday May 15th vs. CAI Zaragoza.
