For the fourth time in six weeks to begin the 2014-15 season, Siena Women’s Basketball freshman Margot Hetzke is the MAAC Rookie of the Week. The Penfield, N.Y. native averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in leading the Saints to a pair of road wins last week.

Hetzke’s four MAAC Rookie of the Week awards are just two shy of tying Laura Menty’s program record of six during the 2004-05 season. Since the start of last season, Siena has now boasted the MAAC Rookie of the Week nine times with four different players earning the honor. No other conference team has won more than four MAAC Rookie of the Week awards and/or had more than two different honorees over that time.

Hetzke scored 17 points on 6-12 shooting in the Saints’ 75-65 win at Sacred Heart Wednesday. She scored eight of her points during Siena’s game-ending 32-9 run as the Saints rallied from 13 points down with 13 minutes to go to win. On Friday, Hetzke scored all of her team-high tying 12 points in the second half and added eight rebounds as Siena posted a 62-53 win at Binghamton, helping the Saints clinch the program’s second straight winning non-conference season.

Hetzke currently ranks third in the MAAC in scoring (15.2), rebounding (7.6) and offensive rebounding (3.3).

Hetzke and the Saints return to action following a nine-day holiday break Sunday when they host Colgate. The game will be the back end of a Siena Basketball doubleheader at the Times Union Center with the women’s game scheduled to tip off at 4 pm.
