Siena Freshman Margot Hetzke has once again been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week following another outstanding performance. It was her eighth time earning the recognition which is the third most such awards earned by any player in the history of the MAAC.

Hetzke now trails only Iona’s Joy Adams (12 in 2012-13) and former Marist great Rachele Fitz (11 in 2006-07) for the most MAAC Rookie of the Week Awards in the conference’s more than three decades long history.

With just three more weeks in the season, Hetzke has positioned herself as a clear favorite for MAAC Rookie of the Year. She is one of just three players to have earned the award this season. Her eight awards is double that of Fairfield’s Casey Smith who has earned the award 4 times. Marist’s Payton Birchmeier is the only other player to earn the honor this season, that being just once.

Hetzke averaged 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 47.6% from the field and 50% from three-point range last week for the Saints which posted a road win at Rider Thursday and a home victory over Monmouth Saturday. She scored 10 points and added seven rebounds as Siena dismantled Rider, which had won four of its previous five games, 65-43. Against Monmouth, Hetzke tallied 16 points and added six rebounds and two blocks as the Saints swept the regular season series from the Hawks.

Hetzke continues to enjoy one of the finest freshman seasons in MAAC history. She currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring (13.6), third in rebounding (7.2) and 10th in field goal percentage (.453). She has scored in double figures 17 teams, recorded four double-doubles and twice eclipsed 20 points in a game
