What a day for senior guard Conner Fenlon. He gets his first career start on Senior Day and hits his first two field goals of his Siena career. As I sat there watching this performance and listening to the announcer making references to Fenlon’s high game I could not help but smile. Earlier in the year me and Tom had an opportunity to sit down and interview Fenlon and Cruz. Here at this interview is where I really got a glimpse of what I always hoped for as a player. For myself it was like sitting down with the real life “Rudy”. Here is a walkon who puts in a 150% each and everyday for this team and rarely ever gets any playing time and or accolades for what he provides. You ask yourself “what is his motivation to put in this hard work for limited playing time as well as being a full time student?” The answer is simple, the love of the game. Fenlon may not have the best vertical, or even the best jump shot but he does possess the biggest heart on the team. He is the epitome of what this college is all about. It may not be the biggest and or the most talent filled program but it has heart and time and time again through the years it has shown what that heart is capable of doing. So as I watched the movie “Conner” today I really wanted to take this time to say “Thank You Conner Fenlon!” Thank you for all your hardwork but thank you for keeping so many of our dreams alive. Some may say this is an end to his career but I disagree, it’s simply the beginning. Mark my words Conner Fenlon will have a bright and successful career in the game of basketball. It’s in his blood and when the time comes you will know his team by the heart they exhibit not only as a players but as individuals.
