Game Preview: Siena Women vs. Marist

Siena heads to Poughkeepsie Tuesday night to take on perennial MAAC power, Marist. Tipoff at the McCann Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. It is the 57th meeting between the two teams with Siena leading the series 29-27. The Red Foxes have won the last 19 however, with 18 of 19 by double figures and a margin of victory of 17.5 points.

The Saints last defeated Marist on Dec. 3, 2004, 56-50 in overtime in Poughkeepsie. In their last meeting, Marist led by just four with 10 minutes to play before going on an 11-0 run to pull away for a 66-48 victory in Loudonville. In their first matchup last season, the Saints went on a 30-12 run to battle back from a 19-point first-half deficit to close within 1 point with 14:45 to go. The game remained within a few possessions the rest of the way with Marist going on to win, 75-64.

Siena (6-6, 1-2) is coming off a convincing 82-58 win at Manhattan on Sunday. The Saints matched a season high scoring output with their 82 points. Their three freshman all made major contributions is earning the Saints’ first MAAC win of the season. Meghan Donohue posted her second double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Logan tallied 9 points, 4 rebounds and a career-high 6 assists. Emia Willingham added 9 points. Junior Tehresa Coles landed her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds along with 5 assists and 3 steals. Clara Sole Anglada added 13 points and 9 rebounds and Kanika Cummings chipped in with 8 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Cummings leads the Saints in scoring, averaging 9.0 points per game. Donohue, named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second time, averages 8.3 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds. Coles adds 8.3 and Sole Anglada 8.1.

Siena has averaged 75 points in their first 3 MAAC games this season. They continue to lead the MAAC in steals (11.2, 22nd nationally) and turnovers forced 22.1.

Currently ranked 4th in most recent ESPNW Mid-Major Poll, Marist enters the game with an overall record of 9-4, 3-0 in the MAAC following a 70-46 win over Manhattan on Friday. It was their 8th straight win this season and their 34th consecutive conference win. Their senior class is now 65-1 all-time in the MAAC.

The Red Foxes finished last season with an overall record of 26-7, and a perfect 18-0 in the MAAC winning their 10th straight MAAC regular season title. They went on to win their 8th consecutive MAAC Tournament Championship. They are 68-1 in their last 69 MAAC games.

Four Red Foxes average double digits in scoring, 6-1 sophomore guard/forward Madeline Blais (15.5), 5-10 senior guard Leanne Ockenden (14.4), 6-0 senior forward Emma O’Connor (13.4) and 5-10 senior guard Casey Dulin (11.0). Marist placed three players on the Preseason All-MAAC teams, Dulin First team, Ockenden Second Team and O’Connor Third team.
