Game Preview: Siena Women at Rider

The Siena women are on the road Thursday night to take on Rider. Tip off at Alumni Gymnasium is at 5 pm for a game to be shown on ESPN3. Dean Darling and former Siena men’s coach Mitch Buonaguro are on the call.  This is the 39th meeting between the two teams with Siena leading the series 29.9. It is the second meeting in the last 8 days with Rider winning at Loudonville 56-49 on January 29th.

The Saints enter the game with a  12-9 record overall and 5-7  in the MAAC following an  87-62 loss to Quinnipiac on Friday. Siena has lost its last two games and four of its last six.

In the first matchup this season, Siena shot a season low 28.3% from the field including 2-14 from three-point range. 

Senior Tehresa Coles is currentmy Siena’s leading scorer averaging 13.8 points per game (4th in MAAC). She leads the MAAC with 3.0 steals per contest and now has 270 career steals placing her 2nd at Siena all-time behind Mary Gaudreau ’83  with 281. Coles is second in the MAAC in free-throw shooting (83.2%).

Freshman Margot Hetzke is just behind Coles averaging 13.6 points per game (5th in MAAC). She averages a  team-leading 7.3 rebounds (3rd in MAAC).

Sophomore Meghan Donohue is also in double figures with 10.1 points per game. She is second in the MAAC in field goal percentage shooting 51.4%.

Senior Ida Krogh is a averaging 8.0 points to go along with her 4.6 assists per game which ranks 4th in the MAAC.

The Saints are 8-2 in true road games this season tying them for the sixth most nationally.

RPI rankings: Siena 175, Rider 283

Rider enters the game with a record of 7-14 overall and 4-7 in the MAAC. They have won four of their last five games after starting MAAC play 0-6. They are coming off of a tight 52-51 win over Canisius on Sunday.

The Bronce finished last season with a record of 15-17  overall and 9-11 in the MAAC placing them tied for 5th in the conference. They were picked to finish 6th this season.

Rider is led in scoring by Robin Perkins, a 5-10 R-sophomore guard averaging 11.8 points per game.

Julia Duggan, a 6-1 sophomore center and Preseason All-MAAC Third Team selection adds 8.5 points and 6.9 rebounds.

The Broncs are the 12th worst team nationally in FT% shooting just 60.3%. The are the 13th worst 3pt FG% shooting team at just  24.1%.
