Game Preview: Siena Women At Manhattan

Siena is on the road on Sunday to take on Manhattan. Tipoff at Draddy Gymnasium is at 2 p.m. It will be the 56th meeting between the two teams with Siena leading the series 36-19. The Saints have won the last 4 matchups including a 54-51 win in Riverdale last time out.

According to RealTimeRPI.com Siena’s current RPI ranking is 185 and Manhattan’s is 306.

Siena (5-6, 0-2) will be looking to build momentum as they play their first game in 2014. As a program, the Saints finished the 2013 calendar year with an overall record of 14-17, tying the most wins in a calendar year since 2005. They are coming off a 77-63 loss to Rider on New Year’s Eve. Kelsey Booth had a career-high 16 points shooting 6-9 from the field with 2 three-pointers. Meghan Donohue added 11 points and 7 rebounds.

The Saints continue to hold a balanced scoring attack. They are currently led in scoring by Kanika Cummings with 9.3 points per game. She has averaged 17.7 points over the last 3 games and is shooting 57.1% (8-14) from 3-point range. Tehresa Coles adds 7.7 points and Clara Sole Anglada and Mehgan Donohue are right behind with 7.6 each. Donohue leads the team in rebounds with 5.8 per game.

Siena’s defense continues to lead the MAAC is steals with 10.9 (25th nationally) and turnovers forced (22.5).

Manhattan enters the game with a record of 3-9, 2-1 in the MAAC following a 70-46 loss at Marist on Friday. The Jaspers are coming off an 8-23 season finishing 9th in the MAAC with a 4-14 record in the conference. They were picked to finish 10th of 11 teams in this year’s preseason coaches’ poll.

Manhattan returns three starters from last year and are led by senior guard Monica Roeder, a Preseason All-MAAC Second Team selection averaging 10.5 points per game along with 4.4 rebounds. Sophomore forward Shayna Ericksen adds 9.3 points and 5.2 boards per game, and leads the MAAC in field goal percentage (.587). Senior guard Allison Skrec averages 8.5 points and 2.6 rebounds to go along with 5.3 assists, third-highest in the MAAC.
