Emia Willingham Signs NLI With Siena

Local standout Emia Willingham, a  senior from Albany High School, has signed her National Letter of Intent with Siena to play for Siena coach Ali Jaques beginning in the 2013-14 season. The 5-6 guard is one of five finalists for the Miss NYS Basketball Award. Willingham finished the season averaging 19.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game and led the Albany Falcons to a record of 20-2 this season, winning the Section 2 Championship and advancing to the state quarterfinals.

“I am very excited that Emia has decided to join our program,” said Jaques. “She has proven to be one of the top guards in our area again this season and her athleticism and ability to score will have an immediate impact on our team. She is also a tremendous student and young woman off the court and the Siena Community will enjoy watching her toughness and work ethic displayed every time she steps on the court.”

Willingham was chosen as the Big Ten MVP,  Section 2 MVP and #1 selection in the WNYT TV 13 All-Stars. She had drawn interest from many other schools including South Florida, Temple, Monmouth, Southern Illinois and Syracuse. She joins a class of 3 other previously signed recruits for the incoming class, 5-8 guard Halee Adams, 6-2 post player Meghan Donohue and 5-6 point guard Brianna Logan.

A varsity player since eighth grade, Willingham led the Lady Falcons to three consecutive Big 10 Titles and was named her team’s MVP each of those years. Willingham, who played AAU basketball for the Albany City Rocks, was also recently named a New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports (NYSSCOGS) Class AA Fourth Team selection.
