Coach B Sets Expectations on Season

In his opening remarks yesterday at Siena Men’s Basketball Media Day Coach Buonaguro set his expectations for the 2011-12 Saints.

Putting no stock in the low preseason expectations being placed on the Saints by many pundits, Buonaguro was quick to set a higher bar for his Saints team.

“We expect to have a very successful season,” Coach said. “We always do at Siena. What matters is what happens at the end of the game, not what people say about your team.”

A season ending injury to forward Davis Martens combined with the announcement Friday that Trenity Burdine would miss at least a month due to a lingering foot injury have been large sources of concern to fans, but Coach Buonaguro insisted that there was no room to use injuries as an excuse.

“A lot has been made about the injuries, and we’re not going to make any excuses,” Coach said. “Injuries are a part of college basketball, and we have a couple. So, we move foward.”

“We’re not rebuilding,” Coach Buonaguro went on to say. “I’ve heard that comment. We’re not rebuilding. I don’t want to hear that from anybody. We’re going out to be competitive and try to win.”

Coach did temper some expectation when he talked about the different measures of success when dealing with a young team.

“I do think we’ll have to measure success this year a little bit differently each day because of the youth of the team.”
