Cameron Gottfried Picks Siena

Jimmy Patsos picked up the second member of his 2014 recruiting class when Cameron Gottfried announced via twitter that he would be a Saint next season.

Gottfried, a 6’2″ shooting guard out of Needham Broughton High Scool in North Carolina is the son of North Carolina State head basketball coach Mark Gottfried.

Siena head coach Jimmy Patsos has been after Gottfried since the summer before his junior year. While coach of Loyola, Patsos offered Gottfried a scholarship in August of 2012. Gottfried, who had been on campus at Siena earlier this season, had reportedly also received interest and offers from Princeton, Wofford, Northern Kentucky and Utah State.

PhenomHoopReport.com’s Jason Porter wrote a scouting report on Gottfried that describes him as follows,

“He is a smart player that plays on loaded AAU and high school teams and holds his own. Cameron can give you strong minutes at either guard slot and does not do anything to hurt the team. He is the type of Solid/fundamental player you would expect to see as a coach’s son.”

Details of Gottfried’s status as a scholarship or walk-on player in 2014 are unclear as presently the Saints do not have an open scholarship for the 2014 class. Gottfried could possibly be paying his own way until a scholarship becomes available at a later date.

Junior Marcus Hopper is the only scholarship player currently slated to be leaving the team after this season. His spot was quickly taken by 2014 guard Jimmy Paige who committed to Siena last month.
