Ben Asher To Be Named Director of Basketball Operations at Siena

It looks like Ben Asher will be named the new director of basketball operations at Siena. Asher served for the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at North Carolina State under Coach Mark Gottfried. Gottfried is the father of Siena sophomore Cam Gottfried who red shirted as a freshman walk-on this past season.

Under Mark Gottfried, Asher was responsible for assisting with film exchange, editing game tape, tracking stats and preparing recruiting correspondence. He also oversaw a seven-man student manager staff and helped track player’s academic progress. Asher assisted with the social media coverage of the basketball program and worked as co-director of the Mark Gottfried Basketball Camps.

Gottfried offered his well wishes to Asher via Twitter:

Before his stop at NC State, Asher worked as head student manager for Bob Huggins at West Virginia.  Originally from Oyster Bay, the New York native has also spent time with the Long Island Lightning and Team Underrated AAU programs.

Also expected to be named soon is a new assistant coach for the Saints. Several sources are reporting that Jeff Ruland will be added to Jimmy Patsos’ staff however it now sounds like that won’t be the case. The complete staff and incoming freshmen along with returning players are all due to be on campus on June 15th for the summer session so expect an announcement soon.
