Albany’s Willingham Commits To Siena

Local standout Emia Willingham, a senior from Albany High School, has reportedly given her verbal commitment to Siena coach Ali Jaques to play for the Saints beginning in the 2013-14 season. The 5-6 guard is one of five finalists for the Miss NYS Basketball Award. Willingham finished the season averaging 19.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.2 steals and 2.1 assists per game and led the Albany Falcons to a record of 20-2 this season, winning the Section 2 Championship and advancing to the state quarterfinals.

Willingham was chosen as the Big Ten MVP,  Section 2 MVP and #1 selection in the WNYT TV 13 All-Stars. She had drawn interest from many other schools including South Florida, Temple, Monmouth, Southern Illinois and Syracuse. She joins a class of 3 other previously signed recruits for the incoming class, 5-8 guard Halee Adams, 6-2 post player Meghan Donohue and 5-6 point guard Brianna Logan.

Comments on Willingham from the TV 13 All Star scouts include.

“Great foot speed, tenacious around the basket, pops a shot from the outside, floor general and excellent passer, ability to get in the lane, can hit the 3-point shot and gets to the free throw line and capitalizes on it, as good a lock down player as there is.”
