Tay “Firefly” Fisher Named A Top Globetrotter
- Updated: March 12, 2012
In an article published on Yahoo Sports naming the top 25 Harlem Globetrotters of all time, former Siena Saint Tay “Firefly” Fisher has been given honorable mention. Now in his third season as a member of the world famous squad, Tay is known for his personality, showmanship and skill, and his ability to win over the fans. These are all traits that Siena fans saw during his career at Siena from 2004-2008.
He is second all time at Siena in 3-point field goals made in a career with 229. He played a key role in the Saints first round upset over Vanderbilt when he went 6-6 from 3 point range to help fuel the 83-62 upset. Prior to his collegiate career, he finished his high school career with the most threes in NYS history after hitting 334 while playing for Kingston and currently ranks 2nd in the state till this day. Tay has continued his long distance marksmanship with the Globetrotters leading the team in 4-point shots. This is a specially marked shot on the court which is about 35 feet from the basket, which is 12 feet longer than an NBA three. He once made 16 such shots in a single game. Below is the profile from the Yahoo article.
Honorable Mention: Tay Firefly Fisher
The current Globetrotters roster consists of 38 players, 10 of which are rookie trotters. The cast of characters changes each season, as players come and go. It is impossible to predict who might become a Harlem Globetrotter Legend and make this list one day. However, my personal opinion as a fan, based on attending six games in the past three years is, the best Harlem Globetrotter currently playing is Tay Firefly Fisher.
The 5.9 ball handler out of Siena University is in his third year with the Globetrotters. He has the complete package of personality, showmanship and skill. In addition to incredible ball-handling skills, Firefly is a sharpshooter from downtown. Since the inception of the 4-point shot in 2010, Firefly has made more four-pointers than any other player, including 16 in one game. He has a natural ability to connect with fans on and off the court. Fans can expect a lifetime love affair with Firefly, a Globetrotter legend in the making.
