The team went on to defeat Alcorn State in the opening game of the NCAA tournament before bowing out to 1 seed Maryland. The following year Mitchell and the Saints won 2 NIT games, defeating Villanova and Western Michigan before falling to UAB. For his career Mitchell scored 1,115 points, 28th all time.
