1990s Championship

We’ve had an epic matchup between Bob Hermann and Fred Shear, a down to the wire contest between Alex Franklin and Kenny Hasbrouck, and now we present the 1990s Championship contest between 1 seed Doremus Bennerman and 3 seed Marcus Faison.

Marcus Faison (3): Marcus played for the Saints from 1996-2000 and was a multi-weapon threat. During his time with Siena he scored 1,697 career points, 6th on the all time list. Marcus led the team in scoring for three consecutive seasons, from 97/’98 to ’99/2000. His point total in 1999-2000 of 570 ranks as the 9th highest in team history. Faison was also a presence on the glass. He led the team in rebounding in 1997-98 with 197 and is 12th all time with 689 for his career. On top of all of this Faison is also 20th on the Saints all-time list for assists with 257 and 2nd in steals with 231. Marcus was inducted into the Siena Hall of Fame in 2011.

Doremus Bennerman (1): Bennerman played for the Saints from 1990-1994. He is one of only two 2000 point scorers in Siena history, totaling 2,109 in his four years. He was a member of the 1994 Saints team that went to the NIT final four and secured third place with a win over Kansas St. It was during that game that Bennerman had the game of his career, scoring 51 points, the most ever by a Saint in a game. During his career he topped the 30 point mark on three other occasions, scoring 36 each time. His senior season scoring output of 858 is tops in Saints history, a 26 ppg average. His ability to score from behind the arc helped bolster his numbers. His 228 career three point field goals is third all-time. Bennerman was also a capable passer. He finished his career with 577 assists, a 4.6 apg average, 4th all-time.

seeing these names brings back chills……Remember Doremus vs Ga Tech(first round NIT 1994) and Marcus in that quarterfinal MAAC win over Canisius(not to mention vs Penn St in a different NIT); and Doremus' entire NIT in 1994…wow. These guys were players and fun to watch.
